Top reviews from other countries. Verified Purchase. Did not want to believe the negative reviews about this boxset. Well, it can. What I do not get is how is it possible for a band such as Big Country not to have decent live recordings from each and every tour they ever made.
Was is so hard to record from a soundboard? For completists only. I am no audiophile, but audience recorded bootlegs were never my thing. One ward Crap Can't believe the band Sanctioned this I can believe Cherry red would put it out they seem to put anything out like Status Quo in a pub rock box set Enough said. Report abuse. This is the first bootleg that I have bought so I didn't know what to expect. Although some of the acoustics are not very good all in all it brings home a live Big Country concert.
I was waiting very eagerly for this box set. I assumed that these would be taken from a soundboard and remasterd to produce a live "bootleg" set. But no, these seen to be actual fan bootlegs of horrible quality. I may as well have bought them on tape in a car park like in the old days Very disappointed with cherry red records trying to scam it's customers.
Avoid this awful quality box set. Keep on Dreaming. Beautiful People. The Hostage Speaks. Beat the Devil. Leap of Faith. You, Me and the Truth. Comes a Time. Into the Fire. Heart of the World. Kiss the Girl Goodbye. When I took the original demo versions of "Ships" and "Kansas" into the record company, they didn't even want them on No Place Like Home.
They couldn't even hear them as songs. But "Ships" has been a huge success throughout Europe at the moment. Even as we speak, it's gone really big all over the radio. Upon release in , Peter Kinghorn of the Newcastle Evening Chronicle described the song as a "powerful rock ballad" with a "fine performance". He added: "Here Big Country varies its straight-ahead driving sound with a softer beginning before kicking into overdrive.
It's all fairly well done, but the attempts at altering their sound just don't suit Big Country and several songs sound generic. Listen to over 60 million songs with an unlimited streaming plan. Around thirty years ago, Seattle became the epicenter of the rock scene, largely thanks to grunge music. Perhaps too quickly embraced by the very system it rebuffed, it almost became a caricature of itself by the end of the s.
Nick Cave and his Bad Seeds remain one of the most prolific adventures of the post-punk era. Since the late s, the vast magnetism of the Australian singer has swirled through violent paroxysms, fulminating covers, piano ballads and sweaty rock'n'roll. As the years went by, Cave became more and more of a crooner, part way between a punk Frank Sinatra and an austere Johnny Cash.

The album finds the band trying to reinvent themselves and shift away from their '80s image.
